Kaprun in Austria

For Ramblers, Hikers & Bikers

Biking

Gentler walks for all ages abound along the valley, around the lake and at the top of the Maiskogel, reachable by cable-car. Also not to be missed, at the head of Kaprun's valley lie two spectacular reservoirs, whose brilliant blue-green waters reflect the snow-capped peaks to perfection. Behind the village is the Sigmund-Thun Gorge, with its board-walk taking you into the heart of the gorge, to the thrilling roar of the snow-melt waters.

At the more extreme end of the scale, the gondola-lift up the Kitzsteinhorn gives access to the perma-snow world of high Alpine terrain, with local guides available if you wish to venture onto the glacier itself.

For bikers, suffice it to say that Kaprun is home to the World Mountain-Bike Cup each autumn, and there are trails of all grades in the mountains, as well as valley cycle tracks along the river, ideal for families.

The Esprit Welcome Wander takes place on Sundays and is a family-friendly walk, suitable for all ages, to introduce you to the local area. It offers a great opportunity to meet fellow guests and to plan the week's activities. The gentle walk will culminate at a scenic spot to enjoy a complimentary light picnic lunch. You may then leave your younger children in our child carers' capable hands and enjoy a further hour's walk if you wish.

There aren’t many places in the world where you can summer-ski in the morning, and the same afternoon be basking in 80º sunshine as you swim, boat, or windsurf on a beautiful lake, or play golf on a wonderful 18-hole course.

Kaprun is such a place! Set in its own picturesque valley, with no main through traffic to disturb its peace, Kaprun lies between the 3,200m peak of the Kitzsteinhorn, with its famous year-round glacier ski area, and one of Austria’s loveliest lakes at neighbouring Zell am See.

Full of friendly charm and traditional character, there simply could not be a better choice for your family holiday.

Great days OutWith so much to do, that even the most active family will relish the seemingly endless choice and variety, whilst those in search of relaxation will find the fresh air, pristine environment and specatacular scenery a tonic.
